JSON Formatter and Validator

Format, validate and minify JSON.

About the JSON Formatter and Validator

Raw JSON from an API or a log file can be a single unreadable line. This JSON formatter adds indentation so you can read it, minifies it to save space, and checks that it is valid JSON, showing the error when it is not.

How to use the JSON Formatter and Validator

  1. Paste your JSON into the box.
  2. Click Format to indent it with two spaces, or Minify to remove all extra spaces.
  3. If the JSON is invalid, read the error message under the box and fix the problem.
  4. Click Copy to take the result.

Good to know

  • Common mistakes are single quotes instead of double quotes, a missing comma between items and a trailing comma after the last item.
  • The tool checks structure only. It does not repair broken JSON for you.
  • Because everything runs in your browser, it is safe to paste data you do not want to share, though you should still be careful with passwords and keys.

Frequently asked questions

What is JSON?

JSON is a plain text format for storing and sending data. It uses braces, brackets, keys in double quotes and values.

Why does my JSON show an error?

The message names the position where the parser stopped. Look just before that point for a missing quote, comma or bracket.

Is there a size limit?

There is no fixed limit. Very large files depend on the memory of your device.
